The Cathedral in
Kalmar is the only one in Sweden without a bishop.

elder and built in Italian baroque style in the
second half of the 17th century. Do not miss a

built during the period of Sweden's greatness as

From the Gamla
Stan it is easy to reach the Riksdagshuset (The
Parliament House). Follow the Västerlångatan
north to the short street of Riksgatan, which
actually divides the Parliament building in two.
Riksdagshuset was built on the island of
Helgeandsholmen in 1895 - 1904. The architect,
Aron Johansson, was influenced by German
new-baroque style. The building was renovated
1971-1978 while the parliament was residing at the
present Kulturhuset at Sergels square. |

Saab J 29
Tunnan (The Barrel) was a
Swedish fighter aircraft designed and manufactured
bySaab between 1950 - 1956. A total of 661 Tunnans
were built from 1950 to 1956 making it the largest
production run for any SAAB aircraft.. 30 Tunnans
were sold to Austria in 1961 where they remained
in service until 1972. Tunnan held the world speed
record for about a year in 1954 when it set the
record at 977 km/h; This aircraft is located at
the Västerås Airforce Museum 70 km west of

On the roof of the
Stockholm Globe Arena or, in
Swedish , Globen ("The
Globe") is an arena in Stockholm. It is
currently the largest hemispherical building in
the world and took two and a half years to build.
Having the shape of a large golf ball, it has a
diameter of 110 metres (361 feet) and an inner
height of 85 metres (279 feet). The volume of the
building is 600,000 cubic metres (21,188,800 cubic
feet). It has seating for 16,000 spectators. It
would take about 40 years to fill the Stockholm
Globe Arena with water from a tap. (text:

Sager
House, Stockholm .
The Sager House is the official
residence of the Prime Minister of Sweden. It is
located between Rosenbad, the Government
Chancellery and the Ministry for Foreign Affairs.
It lies across from the Riksdag building, on
Helgeandsholmen and the Royal Palace on
Stadsholmen. It was acquired by the Swedish
government in 1988. It was known as the Sager
Palace until Prime Minister Ingvar Carlsson moved
in. Carlsson claimed it was against his political
convictions to reside in a palace and the building
was subsequently demoted to "house". |

Långe
Jan, Ottenby Lighthouse southern Öland.
This lighthouse was built in 1785 at the most
southern point of the island east of the swedish
coast. Rising 42 meters from the ground it is the
highest lighthouse in Sweden. After several
renovations it is now a automatic electric

The Basilica of
Saint Peter, officially known in Italian as the
Basilica di San Pietro in Vaticano and
colloquially called Saint Peter's Basilica, ranks
second among the four major basilicas of Rome (San
Giovanni in Laterano, San Pietro, Santa Maria
Maggiore and San Paulo) and its Vatican City
enclave. Possibly the largest church in
Christianity (yet see Yamoussoukro), it covers an
area of 5.7 acres (23,000 m²) and has a capacity
of over 60,000 people. |

This church dates
from the12th century. It has been ravaged by fire
a few times. Behind it is the ruins of a
monastery. Four medieval kings have been buried
here : Erik Eriksson, Erik Knutsson, Knut Eriksson
and Inge the Elder. Birger Jarl ( the founder of
Stockholm ) and his wife did also chose this as
their final resting place. Magnus Gabriel de la
Gardie, the owner of Lنckِ castle and
several other estates ( for example the
hunting-lodge that is now the town hall of Lidkِping,
and Hِjentorp ), restored the church in the
17th century, and is also buried here. |

Lannaskede
old church is one of the oldest
romanesque churchbuildings and is an apse church,
it was completed around 1150. In the chruch there
are interesting medallion paintings from the 18th
century in the ceiling. In the apse there are
still limepaintings that are easy to see. |

The Royal
Palace of Stockholm. Carl Gustaf Folke
Hubertus was born April 30th, sixty years ago. The
Royal Palace of Stockholm is His Majesty The
King's official residence. The palace is built in
baroque style by the architect Nicodemus Tessin
and is formed as a Roman palace. The palace has
more than 600 rooms divided between seven floors
with a state apartment facing the city and smaller
living rooms facing the inner courtyard. |

Koh Poda
is a small limestone island 25 minutes by boat
from the beaches of the Raileh peninsular. A coral
reef lies about 20 metres from the beach with a
variety of sea life. The beach is long not
crowded. |

Molins fountain in
Kungsträdgården, Stockholm is a bronze
sculpture.
The fountain is made by Johan Peter Molin
(1814-1873) and was unveild on september 25th
1873. The fountain is surrounded by six swans and
covered with figures from the nordic mythology. |

Every december the christmas bazaar in the Old town in
Stockholm opens its gates. Here you can shop around for
christmas presents and other swedish made handicrafts. At
the grand square you can also find the Nobelmuseum.

The view from the 106 meter high tower of the Stockholm
city hall is amazing. From the top of the tower you can
experience Stockholm´s beauty from a different angle.

Grönskär lighthouse in the Stockholm archipelago(Queen
of the Baltic Sea) The lighthouse was built in 1770; it
was then an open charcoal-driven lighthouse. It was
designed by the architect Carl Fredrik Adelcrantz.

The Concert Hall at the heart of Stockholm is famous
throughout the world as the venue for the annual Nobel
Prize ceremony wich takes place on the 10th of december.
Since its inauguration in 1926 it has also been the home
of the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra. Later in
the evening the Nobel Banquet is held in the "Blue
Hall" at Stockholm city Hall.

Södra Länken is a new road
traffic system that links important parts of Stockholms
suburbs together. It is some 6 kilometres long, of which
4.5 kilometres run through tunnels under suburbs
immediately south of Stockholm's inner city.
Södra Länken is Sweden's largest road tunnel
construction ever and the most extensive road project
undertaken in the Stockholm region since Essingeleden was
built in the 1960's. Read

Feskekôrka (FishChurch) is a
seafod-market by the Rosenlund canal in Gothenburg. Its
name is from the fact that it looks like a church. The
building was designed by the architect Viktor von
Gegerfeldt and it was inaugurated in 1847. Nowadays its a
popular tourist-attraction where people can buy food from
the sea and eat at the restaurants inside the building.

10 years has passed since the
ferry Estonia sank, and 852 people lost their lives on the
baltic sea. It was Europe's worst post-World War II
maritime disaster. This panorama is from the Estonia
monument Djurgården, Stockholm. Written on the walls are
the names of those lost on the night of 28th sept 1994.

This wonderful little church
of Näshult in the south of sweden dates back to 1732, it
has some wonderful paintings in the ceiling that tells
"story of the Creation". |
Balder is the biggest and most thrilling wooden
coaster in Scandinavia, it is one of Lisebergs most
popular rides. Liseberg is situated in the westcoast city
Gothenburg. Liseberg was opened the year 1923 and if you
go to Gothenburg you must visit this lovely amusement
park. |
This year the Arvika-festival featured many
interesting artists. Kraftwerk, Skinny Puppy and Faithless
where some of the most famous artists that played during
the 3 day festival in June. This panorama was taken in
front of the Vintergatan stage and the swedish artist
Marit Bergman was on stage. |
The Swedish Parliament is called the Riksdag
In 1865 the mediaeval Riksdag of the Estates was abolished
and replaced by a Bicameral Riksdag (two Chambers). The
First Chamber (Fِrsta kammaren) was mainly
represented by the upper classes. The Second Chamber
(Andra kammaren) was more popular in character.
In 1970 the Bicameral Riksdag with two Chambers was
abolished and replaced by a Riksdag with a Single Chamber
(Enkammarriksdagen). |
The beautiful island of Sandِn, with the
picturesque village of Sandhamn nestling by the water's
edge, is a miniature paradise on the fringes of the
Stockholm archipelago.
Every year one of the worlds largest regattas starts from
Sandhamn. It attracts 3-400 participant yachts every year.
The start is on the 4th of july. |
Johannes Church, designed by Carl Mِller, was
constructed in
Neo-Gothic style in 1890. It is a brick church of
unusually high and slender proportions. Next to the church
is a wooden steeple
from 1692. The interior consists of red, yellow and black
bricks,
with richly decorated arches.

Birka on the island of Bjِrkِ in Lake Mنlaren
was the centre of the prosperous Mنlaren valley in
the Viking Age. The town was founded in the eighth century
and became an important trading site
as well as an international harbour for visitors from far
and near.

Cars at the Royal Mews.
The history of royal car ownership began with a Daimler
purchased privately by Crown Prince Gustaf in 1899.
Daimler cars remained a royal favourite throughout the
20th century. Not until 1908 is the "automobile"
mentioned as a means of transport in the daily reports
compiled at the Royal Mews. Simultaneously the official
title of "automobile driver" was introduced |

Alvastra abbey was founded in 1143 by French monks from
the Cistercian order.
In its heyday Alvastra was Sweden's biggest monastic
house, flourishing for almost 400 years.
Today you can see the ruins of several monastic buildings,
including the church, on the site.

The church of Engelbrekt is situated in Stockholm. The
architect Lars Israel Wahlman designed the church in
Jugend style. The church was built 1914.
The vault is 32 meters high, and that is the highest for a
church in scandinavia

founded 1900, have been running the Solvalla track since
1927.
Every year the Scandinavian Trotting fraternity assemble
for the prestigious race - Elitloppet.
For two days, the 60000 public are entertained with the
best that trotting can offer. |

ضstermalmshallen was inaugurated in November of 1888
after only six months of construction.
High rental levels and the novelty of selling food indoors
made for a rather modest start. The 1915 ban on the
selling of butter, fish and meat outdoors gave the
operation a real boost.
During the 1960's when the trend in Stockholm was to tear
down old buildings in favor of new, there were plans to
level the market hall. Fortunately the hall was saved from
the wrecking ball.
The 28 meter-high ceiling in combination with the
beautifully crafted shop interiors make for a very
magnificent over-all impression. |

The Stockholm Central station was built between 1867 and
1871, and was designed by the architect Adolf W. Edelsvنrd.
The building have been modified several times since then
and the latest large modification was in 1986 when the
platforms where roofed and a ticket-hall was built facing
the Klarabergsviadukt.

The Royal Palace in Stockholm, also known as the
Stockholm Palace, is the official residence of the Swedish
monarch. The personal offices of the king and the other
members of the royal family, as well as the administrative
offices of the Royal Court of Sweden is located there. The
Palace is also used for representative purposes by the
king in performing his duties as the head of state. The
private residence of the royal family is located at Drottningholm
Palace. |

The Granhult church is an unusually wellpreserved
medieval wooden church from the 1220s.
There are only about 10 more or less preserved wooden
churches in Sweden from this time.
The villagers of Granhult are having a hard time raising
money to preserve the old church. Visit

in the middle of "Smهland"

Stockholm's City Hall was built between 1911-1923 to

Sweden's foremost buildings in the National Romantic

Behind the imposing facades, built with 8 million bricks
are found offices, meeting rooms and banquetting halls.
Inspired by the palaces of the Renaissance, Ragnar ضstberg
had the City Hall built around two squares or
"piazzas", Borgargهrden and the Blue Hall.
This is where the NobelDinner is held after the NobelPrice
Ceremony every year.

The lighthouse 'Lهnge Erik' is located at the
northern tip of the island of ضland. The tower is
32.1 m (105 ft) tall and made from sandstone. It can
actually sway up to 2 feet during very high winds.
Electricity was installed at the light in 1946. The tower
is open to the public and can be climbed to the top for a
beautiful view.

Dنdesjِ old church. In the middle of the
13th century the villagers of Dنdesjِ built
their little stonechurch. This church was used until the
end of the 18th century when the new church on the other
side of the country road was inaugurated. The choir and
apse of the old church were demolished but the longhouse
was left and transformed into a storagehouse for corn. The
paintings in the roof which has the form of medallions are
extraordinary and unique. They where made by master
Sigmunder and tell the story of the so called
"Staffan-legend". The church is still in use for
services and especially as a wedding-church. See

Solliden is an Italian renaissance palace built in 1906 as
a summer residence for the Swedish Queen Victoria. In the
summer it is residence for King Carl XVI Gustaf and his
family. When the king is not at Solliden it is open to the
public. You then can visit the beautiful gardens.

On the eastcoast of ضland, the second largest island
of Sweden Kapelludden can be found. Here you can find the
remainders of a chapel build sometime during the 13th
century. Saint Birgitta died in Rome 1373 and her remnants
where brought ashore just outside of the chapel. In the
late 15th century Birgitta was made patron saint of the
chapel of Kapelludden.
Behind the chapel you can see Kapelluddens lighthouse that
was build in 1872.

Katarina is the oldest fire-station in Stockholm. The fire
bridgade moved in the year 1876. The building wich is
called "Sivertska kasernen" (eng the Sivertska
Barracks) previously served as
brewery and barracks for the city guard. The oldest parts
are from the 1870s.

Swedish nationalarena for soccer. Rهsunda was
inaugurated the 18th of sept 1910 by crown prince Gustaf
Adolf. The wooden platform could hold 2000 spectators.
Total capacity was calculated to about 12000 spectators,
but that was never reached.
Several rebuilds until today , and Rهsunda stadium
has 37.285 seats.
This panorama was taken before the match AIK-Landskrona in
the Swedish top-league "Allsvenskan" The match
ended 3-0 in favour of AIK.

The Rosdala glassworks factory started in 1895 by Oscar
Carlstrِm and Carl Pettersson.
Today only a small part of the factory is active. The old
part of the factory
was transformed to a museum, and then listed as a historic
building in the year 2000.
